Tips for Picky Eaters – Part 1: Free Printable Reward Chart!

February 2, 2017

What didn’t work today might not work tomorrow either. Then again, it might! Keep at it! Continue to offer foods and work on expanding their food experience. Use our rewards chart to encourage your child/children and move them through the steps to discovering new foods!

Try these FOUR simple steps:

1st Work on having your child keep the new food on his/her plate with no pressure to eat it. This step may move quickly or slowly depending on your child.

2nd Pick up the food. Explore. Investigate. Question.

3rd If your child is reluctant to take a bite – try asking them to lick the food just to see how it tastes.

4th Take one bite of the new food. I always allowed my child to spit out the food if they didn’t like it. We worked towards swallowing the food as an additional step when needed.

** Sometimes you might only get through one step each month and that’s okay! Stay patient with the process! Progress takes time and can sometimes be two steps forward and one step back. Once your child has had ten successful attempts, move onto the next course of action! **
